I fell behind on my animation timeline, but for a very good reason. After finishing the physics-based exercises of my 50 Sprints challenge, I hit a massive personal roadblock: Walk Cycles. Doing quick sketch tests in Tahoma2D worked great for bouncing balls, but animating a full walk frame-by-frame felt like pulling teeth. So, I took a step back to work smarter, not harder. In this episode, I’m breaking down why I pivoted to Tahoma2D's Mesh and Bone tools, how I spent my "missing" time restructuring the entire backend organization of Kudu Animation Studio, and why taking a creative pause is sometimes the fastest way to move forward. The physics of a pendulum are the DNA of animation. But after spending hours polishing my latest follow-through exercise (the 'Head with Antenna' test), I had a revelation that is completely changing my workflow at Kudu Studio. In this video, I do a side-by-side comparison of the raw pencil test versus the fully polished vector in Tahoma2D. The results made one thing very clear: The magic is built in the sketch. This marks a major pivot as I tackle the rest of the 50 Animation Sprints. We're going raw, focusing on the acting, and getting back to basics to learn faster. Building dreams, frame by frame. Just rougher ones for a while.

The Lab Report: Episode 26 In Episode 25, Jerry and I were wrestling with "Mass" and "Weight." This week, we’re pivoting to the opposite end of the physics spectrum: Velocity and Elasticity. The Challenge: If the physics are wrong, a tennis ball feels like a rock. To make it feel "snappy," I had to focus on the anticipation of the throw and the "Golden Rule" of the bounce. Even with a software crash right out of the gate, we got Sprint #3 in the books. Inside the Lab This Week: The 3-State Swap: A deep dive into my method for managing Normal, Stretch, and Squash states for a solid, future-proofed rig. Anticipation & Easing: Why Jerry needs a "hop" before the throw and how a tiny timing chart changes the whole feel of the motion. The Arc of the Bounce: Tracking the ball from the ledge to the wall and back to Jerry, ensuring the stretch follows the path of action. Character Follow-Through: Why I adjusted Jerry’s head to track the ball (because nobody likes a "dummy" character!). The 2026 Refocus: I am currently working through 50 foundational animation sprints to master Tahoma2D.
